Girl Scout troops in Austin gave their time and creativity to make valentines for the children at Bethel. The children received their own, personalized valentines with hearts and stickers. One of the youngest boys, Manoj, starting crying. When one of the house mothers asked why, he said, with a little pout, “My valentine doesn’t have a sticker!”
For these children, every sticker is a jewel.
Indians, as a people, love bright colors, and the warm pinks and purples of the valentines were like splashes of Holi powder.
The children were so happy to receive special valentines from children in America. They were able to practice their English while reading the special messages inside. If you are a scout troop or youth organization, please consider sharing your creativity and love with our children in India.
