Rourkela Home for Children

The Rourkela Home for Children is located in the small town of Birmitrapur (BRMP), which is about thirty miles north of the heavily populated steel city of Rourkela in the state of Orissa, India.
The Rourkela home is the second oldest Miracle Foundation orphanage. It was started on Christmas Day 2004. It is home to approximately 100 children and over forty of those children are three-years old or younger. There is a 3 to 1 ratio of house mothers to infants and a 10 to 1 ratio for the older children.
The orphanage itself is located directly next the BRMP Sunday Market, making it ideal to purchase food and other supplies quickly. Because of the close proximity to the town, the children of the Rourkela orphanage are often able to take field trips outside of the orphanage to attend festivals and other events.
Being one of the oldest orphanages of The Miracle Foundation, the children have met over 100 Ambassadors who have been part of The Miracle Foundation’s IMPACT Travel trips. Because of that, most of the children are very comfortable with visitors, making the Rourkela stop on an IMPACT Travel trip one of the most memorable and fun.
In March 2006, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) donated over a dozen computers to the orphanage. In that computer lab, the children learn essential computer skills while simultaneously improving their English. Also, for one dollar a month, local BRMP villagers can take computer classes. This creates a fantastic relationship with the surrounding community and it’s a program The Miracle Foundation is going to replicate elsewhere.
