Mary-Lou Street

Journal from India

This journal entry is from Mary-Lou Street, one of our volunteers who has traveled to India.

India: Hustling crowds at rowdy, reeking railway stations. The cacophony of sounds – train whistles, cars honking, children crying, people talking, and moving towards their destinations. The weather-beaten, bent and wrinkled old women begging and begging. People sleeping on the pavement on ratty, dinghy dirty cloth or mats. Broken children, neglected hearts – forlorn crying, begging continually – touching and tugging on strangers – vacant eyes, empty hearts, emaciated bodies – alone.

Juxtaposed with The Miracle Foundation: Behind gated walls, an opening. Children connected to us with smiles and greetings with song. Energy en-captures visitors with loving, eager hands – nestled children wrapped in love. Soft words and comfort of mothers. A life beyond – not just food and shelter. A nurturing care to love, which touches all children in different ways. Becoming more than where these children are to encompass who they are. Playing, singing, dancing – being children. God’s hand and love wrapped around those who care – a new generation of HOPE. Empty and alone no more. Forlorn and forgotten no more.

Outside the walls – broken children with tattered hearts. Inside the walls – The Miracle. Well-held children with healing hearts.
