Soma was just four years old when her world changed.
After the sudden death of her father, Soma’s mother was left to care for two young children with no support and no safety net. Grieving, overwhelmed, and barely earning enough to feed her kids, she made the most painful decision of her life, and decided to place Soma in an orphanage (Child Care Institution in India), believing it was the only way her daughter could get a chance at the life she deserved..
Soma spent the next ten years growing up in care, in an environment that offered education and met her basic needs. But what it couldn’t give her was her mother’s love, and Soma missed her every single day.
The ache of separation never faded. Even though she adapted to life in care, she felt disconnected. Her mother never gave up. As the years passed, she worked hard to rebuild her life and open the door for Soma to come home. Miracle Foundation walked alongside them both, offering counseling, parenting support, and practical help to make reunification not just possible, but sustainable.
Soma’s transition back wasn’t perfect. There were bumps and setbacks. Her neighborhood didn’t feel familiar anymore. Her mother’s new home, it all felt distant. Soma had longed for her family while away, but being back, she didn’t know how to fit into it again. She and her mother slowly began rebuilding their relationship, one step at a time. She found encouragement to return to school and began learning new skills like tailoring and computer literacy. Today, Soma is in college, studying social work so she can help other children like her. Her dream? To ensure that no child has to grow up without the love of a family.
Her story is a powerful reminder that when families are supported, separation can be prevented, and reunification can become a new beginning.
