Building Strong Communities Through Psychological Support

Smiling family embracing together, representing family strengthening through psychological support, mental health services, and community-based child protection programs.

Strong families require emotional support just as much as financial stability. Sustainable communities invest in both. According to the World Health Organization, community-based mental health care is more accessible and acceptable than institutional care, helps prevent human rights violations, and delivers better recovery outcomes. By partnering with local organizations, communities can get the specialized care they need to thrive.

Miracle Foundation strengthens communities by targeting three pillars of psychological care: children’s support, caregiver support, and social worker support.

Children’s Support

Miracle Foundation has improved the lives of more than 164,000 children by preventing child separation, reuniting children with their families, stabilizing families, and supporting those who cannot reunite with their families.

Trauma-informed care equips caregivers, caseworkers, and communities with tools to recognize and address childhood trauma. Children like Emmanuel and Samaira are thriving because of such support.

The Five Guiding Principles of Trauma-Informed Care:

  • Safety
  • Choice
  • Collaboration
  • Trustworthiness
  • Empowerment

Caregiver & Psychological Support

Healthy caregivers create healthier families. This is especially important with women, who are likely to need mental health support during pregnancy and one year postpartum. In developing countries, the risk of developing a mental disorder during this time is roughly 5% higher.

Risk increases with:

  • Poverty
  • Violence
  • Migration
  • Social isolation
  • Chronic stress

Without support, this risk affects child development, attachment, and family stability. Miracle Foundation works to maintain all three.

Social Worker Psychological Support

Child welfare professionals experience extremely high burnout rates. All workers should have fundamental counseling skills, which include self-care. Miracle Foundation encourages workers to have a specific plan that targets physical, emotional, and spiritual health, with specific workplace structure and boundaries.

Research consistently identifies:

  • Peer support
  • Supervisor support
  • Organizational support

These reduce:

  • Burnout
  • Compassion fatigue
  • Turnover

Thrivewell by Miracle Foundation: The app that supports children, caregivers, and social workers

Miracle Foundation is committed to psychosocial support by transforming the child welfare systems to prevent children from entering or reentering the system in the first place.

Thrivewell:

  • Connects families directly with their social workers, allowing for personalized support that helps families during the hardest moments.
  • Updates families with required logging and proactively reaches out to those falling behind through push notifications.
  • Creates a practical action plan, tailors interventions, and provides continuous follow-up reports to help ensure families thrive.

These tools support the child while reducing burnout in families and social workers. When a child in foster care moves to a second caseworker, the success rate for permanent placement, including family reunification, drops from 74.5% to 17.5%.

Miracle Foundation is committed to family reunification by building strong families and communities through psychological support.
