At 17 years old, Samaira made a decision no child should have to make. In a moment of hopelessness, she reached out to the All-Women Police Station in her town. Her once stable childhood had gradually become one marked by conflict and abandonment. She knew child protection support would be the best first step towards stability for her family.
When Samaira Felt Lost
The Child Welfare Committee intervened in April 2023. After assessing the situation, they supported Samaira’s younger brother in moving into kinship care with extended family, while Samaira entered a Child Care Institution (CCI). Younger children are prioritized for kinship care because they have higher cognitive needs for early attachment, but this separation took a toll on Samaira.
Samaira held onto hope for reintegration with her family, but soon the reality of her father’s alcohol addiction became prevalent. He passed away in December, leaving Samaira to reflect on the conditions she had been brave enough to leave.
In what seemed an irreparable situation, Miracle Foundation helped Samaira find hope.
Creating Mental Stability Through Community Support
As the team worked with her, they decided that kinship care, rather than a return to her home, would ultimately provide Samaira with the safest and most stable path forward. With that long-term goal in mind, she received continuous counseling and a structured care plan focused on her emotional well-being within the CCI setting. Over time, she rebuilt her confidence and reimagined her future, developing a strong interest in pursuing fashion and garment technology.

Psychological support is a crucial pillar for children like Samaira in their journey from crisis to stability.
After the team assessed her situation and family environment, they determined that kinship care with her extended family would provide the most stable pathway forward. Structured preparation, counseling, and regular follow-up supported Samaira’s transition and ensured her emotional adjustment.
Family Reunification
In 2024, Samaira was reunited with her aunt and uncle under kinship care.
Today, she is at the top of her class, pursuing a diploma in Garment Technology at a Polytechnic College in Tamil Nadu. Her younger brother is also continuing his education under family care, gradually returning to stability.
Because of the full arc of child protection, Samaira can live a full life knowing that the impossible decision she made at 17 years old was the right choice. From crisis intervention, alternative care placement, psychosocial support, skill-building, and planned reintegration to sustained follow-up, her story highlights how coordinated systems of care, when applied with consistency and sensitivity, can help a child move from crisis to stability and purpose.
