How Giving Tuesday Began
Giving Tuesday was launched in 2012 by the team at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. Their idea was simple: after days devoted to shopping, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, why not create a day centered on generosity?
What began as a small initiative quickly grew into a global movement. Today, Giving Tuesday is celebrated in more than 90 countries, inspiring millions of acts of kindness each year. The day encourages people to give in whatever way feels meaningful: through donations, volunteering, advocacy, or sharing support online.
